Kindergarten Screening Dates

  • Good Afternoon!

The Brookings School District will hold kindergarten screening for the 2020/2021 school year during the back to school days (August 19 and 20).  Kindergarten students will start school on August 26 and 27 following our kindergarten transition routine.  Principals will communicate specific first day of school schedules with families at a later date.  In the event that the dates change due to COVID, the Brookings School District will notify families that are registered via email and the school district website. You will receive an email from me by the end of next week with your new kindergarten screening appointment date and time. Included in the email that you will get next week will be a brief survey that will help us determine interest for specialized programs (MCL, SDSU Kindergarten, and Junior Kindergarten).  While the selection process for these programs will happen after screening, it will help us to have an idea of interest levels for each.

Despite current challenges, incoming kindergarten students will still need to meet state immunization requirements in order to attend school. We ask that you call or message your child’s primary care provider now, and ask if your child’s immunizations are up to date. This way you will have time to set up an appointment for additional immunizations, if necessary.

You will be required to present proof that your child meets South Dakota School Immunization Requirements (en español)when you attend Kindergarten Screening in the fall.
