Kirstin Girard - Principal
It is with great excitement that I write this letter to you as Dakota Prairies’s new principal for the 2016-2017 school year. This year will be my 10th year in public education. I have spent the past nine years in the Dallas, TX area where I enjoyed five years teaching English Language Arts, math, and science to middle school students, two years as a K-12 instructional coach focusing on literacy, technology integration, and professional development, and two years as an assistant principal in a K-5 elementary school. However, my roots are here in the midwest. I graduated from Canby, MN, and my husband and I lived here in Brookings while we were in college - I even student taught at Medary Elementary! I am elated to bring my skills and experiences to Dakota Prairie and I look forward to partnering with you to ensure your child’s success.
Outside of school, I am busy raising three active boys with my husband Brandon, who is the new elementary principal in Castlewood, SD. Somehow I find time to fit in triathlons, trail races, and an occasional marathon!
I look forward to joining the Dakota Prairie family where we will focus on growing as leaders through learning 21st century skills, character building, student-centered learning, technology integration - and most importantly - positive relationships.
My goal for your child is that he or she grows academically, socially, and emotionally. I want every child in our building to love coming to Dakota Prairie as much as we love that they are here. As principal, my door is always open and I value and seek your input to make this school year the best one yet!
