Mrs. Karen Thaler

Welcome to 7th red language arts!  I am looking forward to getting to know each of you through this school year. I am a South Dakotan- born and raised- and a Jackrabbit at that.  Although I am from South Dakota, you will quickly find that my passion is travel.  I will share that passion with you as we research famous sites around the world.  The second semester I look forward to taking all of you with me to Vietnam! (virtually only, of course!)

My greater passion, however, is my family.  My awesome husband Bob and I have three grown children: Allyse, her husband Mike, and my perfect granddaughter Charleigh;  Sarah,  her husband Dustin, and my second perfect grandbaby Brett; and Noah, who lives and works in Iowa.  After graduating from SDSU as an English education major, I joined the US Peace Corps and taught English as a second language in Kenya, East Africa.  When I returned to the states, I taught in Kansas.  Bob and I married and returned to Brookings, where he took a position at SDSU.  I continued teaching at Flandreau High School and then came to Mickelson Middle School.

Frankly, I tell everyone I know that you students make teaching an absolute joy! Truly, this is the best job in the world. Thanks in advance for that :)
