Brookings High School is a four-year comprehensive public institution serving approximately 1100 learners from Brookings and the surrounding area. In addition to Brookings High School, learners have access to the Career and Technical Center (CTE), the credit recovery program, and the Alternative Learning Center (ALC) for learners requiring self-contained instruction at the high school level. In addition an alternative high school, and opportunities through our concurrent program with South Dakota State University.
The school is accessible to individuals with limited mobility. Each classroom is technologically advanced with a district-wide phone network and Internet wiring as well as multiple wireless access points. A majority of our teachers take advantage of wireless tablet computers to enhance instruction through presentation hardware installed in the classrooms. The school is on a block schedule with 85-minute class periods and five-minute passing times, two 90-minute student responsibility blocks, and four 25-minute homerooms.
Brookings High School’s staff consists of a principal, assistant principal, activities director, 3.8 counselors, 1 librarian, 60 teachers, 4 secretaries, and numerous aides. A school nurse and school psychologist are available. The district faculty averages 13.35 years of teaching experience with approximately 39 percent holding masters degrees or higher.
