LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

Many scholarships may request letter(s) of recommendation. Please follow the recommended timeline when requesting someone to write a letter on your behalf. By providing them with a detailed fact sheet, it should help them develop a strong letter on your behalf.

Letters are personal and take time to write. Please make sure you take the time to write a thank you letter.

Process to Request a Letter

Timeline

Ask the letter writer for a recommendation

Always make your request IN PERSON

At least 4 weeks before the deadline

Give the writer a Letter of Recommendation Fact Sheet

At least 4 weeks before the deadline

Give the writer a friendly reminder of the due date

1 week before the deadline

Follow up with the letter writer to make sure there are no problems or questions

3 days before the deadline

Send the writer a handwritten THANK YOU Note. It’s important to acknowledge the time and effort they put in to support you and your goals.

1-2 weeks after the deadline

The Larson Family First Generation Scholarship
