What is Advisory?
Advisory is a short period at the beginning of the day. Students check in with their teacher, attendance is taken, and the school shares announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance. Most importantly, it gives students and staff time to get to know one another and build relationships.
What is WIN?
WIN stands for “What I Need.” Depending on the day, students may use this time for:
Completing schoolwork or getting help from a teacher
Attending activity meetings, such as Student Council, music groups, or other student groups.
Participating in PBIS or social-emotional learning lessons
Taking part in team activities and Fun Fridays
Your student’s WIN teacher will also be your first point of contact if you have a question or concern.
Why didn't my student get all of their encore choices?
We do our best to give students their preferred encore classes, but not every choice will fit into every schedule. Students who participate in band, orchestra, and/or choir will have at least two additional encore classes. Some students may have more, depending on how everything fits into their schedule.
What time does the school day start?
The school day begins at 8:10 a.m. Students should be in class and ready to begin the day then.
Does my child have to have a study hall?
It depends on what fits into the student’s schedule. If there is not another class the student needs or can take during that period, they will be assigned a study hall.
Why is ELA during two periods?
We are beginning a new ELA curriculum this year that teaches reading and writing together rather than as separate subjects. Two periods allow students more time to strengthen their reading and writing skills while working with the new curriculum.
