DANCE! DANCE! DANCE! On Friday, April 19 the middle school will be hosting a dance from 6 pm-8 pm. The cost is $5 and we will have a concession stand with drinks, candy, and pizza available for purchase. This dance is only for students at Mickelson Middle School.

Boys and Girls Club Families,
The Brookings School District is thrilled to announce the launch of our Early Learning program next fall. As a participant in the Boys and Girls Club program, you can enroll your child in our preschool offerings through the Brookings Childcare Collaborative. Like your current experience, we will provide Pre-K and Extended Enrichment services from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Pre-K programming, offered as half-day services onsite at the Brookings School District, will be $325 per month. For those who wish to extend their child's time in the program, the Boys and Girls Club will offer Extended Enrichment programming at the three elementary schools for an additional fee of $350.
Please use the provided link to enroll for Fall 2024 Pre-K sessions. Upon submission, a $100 deposit can be remitted at the Brookings School District Administration Office at 2130 8th St. S. All current Club students will have priority placement through April 8. After that date, the remaining seats will be filled in order of completed registrations, and Club students will not be guaranteed a placement.
Program-specific information will be shared over the next few weeks; however, we wanted to ensure registration information was available for families wishing to secure a placement next fall. If you plan to register for Extended Enrichment, that link is provided below.
We are excited about the programs being developed and look forward to our partnership with you and your family!

Information on the next Common Sense Parenting class.

Good afternoon all,
During FACS class, we had a spill in an oven with cheese. The cheese ended up getting burnt and producing a significant smell that spread upstairs. We understand why everyone would be concerned about a smell in the middle school, so we wanted to get the word out to people. Thanks!

A mechanical error with our generator late yesterday afternoon caused poor quality air to be distributed back into the HVAC system in the band and chorus room. Once this was noticed by the classroom teacher, students were removed to an alternative learning area.
Administration was not made aware of this situation until this morning and that is why this message is now just getting sent to you. We at MMS apologize for not informing you sooner and we will work on our protocols and communication.

Mickelson Middle School went into a shelter-in-place for a health emergency on Friday, February 2, 2024. We use the shelter-in-place anytime that we need to keep the hallways clear for emergency personnel, anonymity, giving space, etc. Students at Mickelson Middle School were not in any harm's way. We appreciate how the students and staff handled the event.

Please see the attached information on The Child and Family Resource Network's Common Sense Parenting class being offered in Brookings.

During the 7th period, the fire alarm accidentally went off at Mickelson Middle School. All students and staff were evacuated as this was not a practice drill. Once it was deemed safe to enter all students were allowed back in. Students were outside for roughly 10-15 minutes. 8th-grade students were at lunch during the time and were given more time to eat. Thank you to all of the staff and students who treated this situation with the respect it deserved! Have a wonderful weekend!
