The Brookings School District is pleased to announce that Kate Mogard has been selected as the next Principal of Hillcrest Elementary School, beginning in August.

Mrs. Mogard brings with her 17 years of dedicated experience within the Brookings School District, having served learners and staff at Central Elementary, Hillcrest, and Dakota Prairie. Most recently, she has supported district-wide initiatives and provided leadership as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) at Dakota Prairie Elementary.

Mrs. Mogard holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, as well as a Master of Education in Educational Administration from South Dakota State University. Her educational philosophy is rooted in creating supportive, inclusive learning environments where every child feels valued and inspired.

Reflecting on her new role, Mrs. Mogard shared:

“I am honored and excited to return to Hillcrest as their next principal. I am most looking forward to building strong relationships with learners, staff, and families and working together to help our learners feel happy, safe, and excited to learn.”

Mrs. Mogard and her husband, Mike, are proud parents of three Bobcats: Maisie, Henry, and Jack.
