Darcie Malcom & Teresa Howell, "Drop-Off Wonder Women" at Hillcrest Elementary.
I am so happy and excited to nominate Teresa Howell and Darcie Malcom for the Brookings B.E.S.T. Award in recognition of their unmatched energy, creativity, and kindness as the drop-off wonder women at Hillcrest Elementary.
Every afternoon, these two turn what can often be a hectic, stressful part of the day into a bright, welcoming experience for students and parents alike. Whether donning blow-up costumes, coordinating matching outfits, or simply offering a warm smile and wave (no matter the weather), Teresa and Darcie create an atmosphere of joy that sets the tone for the transition home.
Their ability to connect with children and parents is nothing short of genius—transforming car dropoff from a rushed routine into a shared moment of laughter and community. Countless afternoons are made better because of their commitment to making everyone feel seen, valued, and appreciated.
They remind us that it’s often the little things—showing up with enthusiasm, adding a touch of fun, and taking the time to care—that make the biggest difference. Teresa and Darcie’s daily efforts have not only enhanced the drop-off experience but have also strengthened the sense of belonging at Hillcrest.
It’s for these reasons, and so many more, that I enthusiastically nominate them for the Brookings B.E.S.T. Award.
