Brookings High School Librarian Jean Kirschenman was recently honored with the 2026 Distinguished Service Award by the South Dakota Library Association (SDLA) during its annual conference.

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the library profession, supported the development of libraries throughout South Dakota, and demonstrated exemplary service over an extended period.

In addition to receiving the award, Kirschenman presented a session at the conference titled "Amplify Your Library's Story: Going from Under the Radar to Through a Megaphone," focusing on the importance of promoting libraries and sharing the impact they have on their communities.

The Brookings School District congratulates Kirschenman on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her continued dedication to the students and staff of Brookings High School.
