Brookings High School 2025 graduate Ernest Ting has been named as a U.S. Presidential Scholar, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.
Ernest graduated in May with a 4.24 GPA and was actively involved in Cross Country, Swim Team, Orchestra, and Track and Field. He was also very active with the BHS Science Olympiad, Math Counts teams, and Debate Club. This fall, he began studying Information and Data Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he will also compete in track and field.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, established by executive order of the President in 1964, recognizes the country’s most distinguished graduating seniors for their academic achievement, artistic and technical talent, and community service.
Brookings High School is proud to celebrate Ernest’s accomplishments and wishes him continued success in his academic and athletic pursuits.

BHS | On May 11, Logan Smidt, senior guard for the Bobcats, played in the South Dakota All-Star girls basketball game at the Sanford Pentagon. Smidt scored 14 points in a 93-80 win for Team White over Team Blue.


It is with great pride and excitement that we announce the offering and verbal acceptance of our head coach position for the BHS Bobcat Boys Basketball Program by one of our own, Joe Frederiksen! Coach Frederiksen is a current boys' basketball assistant coach for BHS and has 20 years of coaching experience. Pending school board approval, Joe will lead the Bobcats into the 2025-26 season and for many years to come. Congratulations, Coach Frederiksen, and Go Bobcats!


BHS | Congratulations to Junior Olivia Hove, who recently placed 1st at the State FCCLA event for her project "Adapt and Play, Include Each Day!"
