Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

We would also like to recognize our Honor Scholars, a distinction awarded to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement throughout their high school career. To qualify as an Honor Scholar, students must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher at the conclusion of their 7th semester of high school.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence these students have shown. Their hard work both inside and outside the classroom is truly commendable.

The Brookings High School Post Prom Committee is celebrating the success of the 2026 Post Prom event and wishes to publicly thank the local businesses and parents whose generosity made the night possible. The event, which provides a safe, supervised, fun, and affordable evening for BHS students following prom, was held at the SDSU Wellness Center and offered a wide array of activities, including swimming, rock climbing, esports, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, movies, board games, and more. The event also provided a variety of food and treats for all students.

A key highlight of the event was the promise that every student would receive a prize, backed by an impressive total of over $12,000 in prizes. This tradition, along with free food and entertainment until 2:30 a.m., is entirely funded through community support. The committee’s efforts culminated in covering approximately $15,988 in expenses this year—a feat that would be impossible without the dedicated backing of the Brookings business community, parents, and community volunteers.

Students in Basic Foods recently put their culinary skills to the test in an exciting “Burger Battle” competition. Working in teams, they designed and prepared their own original burger creations, focusing on flavor, presentation, and food safety. Judges evaluated each entry, and students reflected on teamwork, creativity, and kitchen techniques. The event was a fun, hands-on way to bring classroom learning to life—and the results were delicious!

Our Robotics students had a great experience on their recent manufacturing tours! They had the opportunity to visit local businesses, learn about real-world manufacturing processes, and see innovation in action.

A big thank you to Larson Manufacturing, Falcon Plastics, and Daktronics for hosting our students and providing such a valuable learning experience. We also appreciate Daktronics for providing lunch!

These hands-on opportunities make a lasting impact, and our students enjoyed the day.

Attention Junior Parents/Guardians and Junior Students,

Despite not having school today, we will proceed with ACT testing tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, for all juniors.

If your child will not be able to attend tomorrow, please call the Brookings High School Main Office as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly. (605) 696-4100

This year the ACT is serving as the state assessment for all 11th grade students, and the State of South Dakota is covering the cost for every junior at no expense to families. This is a great opportunity for our students to complete a nationally recognized college entrance exam during the school day.

Testing will take place from 8:15 am to approximately 1:15 pm.

Student effort on test day truly matters. ACT results can play an important role in postsecondary admissions and scholarship opportunities, while also providing valuable information about academic strengths and areas for growth. We encourage all juniors to take this seriously and give their very best effort.

Testing will begin promptly at 8:15 am, so students must arrive on time and ready to focus. Please help your student get a good night of rest this evening.

Water and snacks will be provided during testing during testing breaks.

Once testing is complete, juniors will be dismissed for the day. We will share any additional details as needed.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our juniors succeed.

Sincerely,
Zach Thomas
