Brookings High School Students and Families, Did you know that In South Dakota, suicide is the leading cause of death among individuals ages 10 to 19-year-olds and 20 to 29-year-olds in 2022 (SD DOH Vital Stats)? On March 25th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the BHS Auditorium the Brookings High School Counseling team will be hosting a viewing of the documentary My Ascension, brought to the district by the Helpline Center. My Ascension is a 50-minute documentary that chronicles Emma's inspiring journey and quest to walk again after her suicide attempt. Following the documentary viewing, attendants will observe a panel discussion consisting of mental health professionals and community members. Resources will be available for families. Please note that this is recommended for a viewing audience of 7th grade and up. If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, help is available. Call or text 988 anytime 24/7 to connect with mental health resources in your area.

MMS & BHS Parents & Guardians: The Brookings School District is gathering information from parents & guardians regarding the Career & Technical Education (CTE) provided by the district. CTE courses include Agriculture, Automotive, Building Trades, Business, Computer Science/PLTW, Family & Consumer Science (FACS), Medical & Health Science. This short survey will allow you as parents & guardians to express what your & your learners' role & participation is within our CTE program. Your responses will be included in the CTE Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CTE-CLNA). The CTE-CLNA will review the current strengths & challenges of the CTE program & identify opportunities to further strengthen the local CTE program. Congratulations are in order to our boy and girl wrestlers who made it to State and competed over the weekend. Special recognition to Gabe Stern and Joey Fitzpatrick on 5th place, Tate Helmbolt on 4th place, Nolan Miles on 2nd place, Maizy Mathis on 2nd place and BHS Junior, Johanna Steinlicht, on becoming the FIRST EVER Bobcat girls wrestler to bring home a State Title. She went UNDEFEATED her entire season!!! We are very proud of you all! Congratulations!

Due to several conflicts, the BHS Talent Show originally scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed (tentatively) to Saturday, March 9. If our GBB team is in the State Tournament that weekend, we may need to move this date or cancel.

The Brookings High School Quiz Bowl Club placed first and seventh at the First Madison High School Quiz Bowl Tournament. Cole Knutzen, Nancy Yang and Shaurya Sehgal placed first. The seventh place team included Albert Shore, Andrew Sternhagen and Kavish Salunke.

Due to the dangerous wind chill levels (-20 and going lower), ALL Brookings School District activity practices, rehearsals, meetings and workouts that take place outside of regular school hours on Friday (Jan 12) and continuing into Saturday and Sunday will be cancelled. The forecast is for the cold to persist into next week. Any announcement regarding Monday's activities will be sent later in the afternoon on Sunday. Please stay safe.

The Brookings School District is selling Disability Awareness T-Shirts to promote inclusion during Disability Awareness Week March 11th, 2024. Show your support by purchasing a t-shirt to be worn on Thursday March 14th. QR code or link are below. If you would like to show further support for our learners by making a donation of any amount, donations can be mailed to the Brookings School District, Attn: Renae Jorgenson. Cash donations in the amount of $150 or more will have your name or business name listed on the back of this year's shirt. If you prefer to not have your name listed but would like to make a donation, please note that with your donation. Donations are due by January 22nd.
