Elementary School Boundary Updates

At the March 23 Board of Education meeting, the Brookings School District Board approved updates to elementary school boundaries, which will take effect beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
These changes were made after careful review of enrollment trends, building capacity, and the goal of maintaining equitable learning environments across all elementary schools. The adjustments are intended to help balance class sizes, support efficient use of district resources, and ensure continued access to high-quality educational opportunities for all students.
To support students and families through this transition, the District is also planning school visit opportunities for students who will be moving to a new elementary building. These visits will include a tour of the school, time on the playground, and opportunities for students to become familiar with the building and future classmates. Additional details regarding these transition activities will be shared as plans are finalized.
In addition, a New Family Open House will be held on Tuesday, April 28 from 4:30–6:00 PM at each of the three elementary schools. This event is intended for new families, including those impacted by boundary changes as well as all incoming Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten learners. Families will have the opportunity to meet staff, ask questions, and take part in school tours during this time.
Families are encouraged to review the updated boundary map and use the SchoolSearch interactive tool to confirm their residence boundary. In the coming weeks, building principals will share additional information about spring registration events and transition details.
The Board also voted to discontinue further consideration of the Partner School concept discussed during the boundary review process.
