I am excited to share that Justin Stanley has verbally accepted the High School Principal position, and his contract officially starts on July 1, 2024. After working with him for the last school year, I am confident in his skills and abilities for this position. Justin Stanley joined the Brookings School District in 2021 as the Assistant Principal at Brookings High School. His educational career began at Horizon Middle School in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he taught 8th grade for a decade. Following this, he served as Principal of Harvey High School in Harvey, North Dakota, for six years. A native of Brookings and an alumnus of Brookings High School, Justin graduated in 1999. He holds undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education and Physical Education from the University of Mary, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Catherine University, and Administration credentials from North Dakota State University. Justin is married to Deann Stanley, and together they have five children: Rowan (18), Ava (16), Cruz (12), Lyric (10), and Briar (6). Due to Justin’s appointment, the district will open the Assistant Principal position. We look forward to Justin's leadership and the continued success of our high school under his guidance.

Demolition started at Medary Elementary. In the words of one of our young learners this morning, " A lot sad, but a little exciting”.

On May 22-24, the Brookings Police Department will conduct training at Hillcrest Elementary. During the training activities, law enforcement vehicles and personnel will be in the school's vicinity.

Happy last week of school everyone! Here is a reminder of our schedule this week: Hillcrest and Medary's last day of school will be tomorrow 5/15/24 with a 2:22 pm dismissal. The remaining schools have their last day on Friday 5/17/24 with a noon dismissal. Graduation for our seniors will take place on Sunday 5/26/24 at 2:00 pm. Enjoy your summer break!

Dear Parents and Guardians, Overnight, two of the school offices received robocall messages. The identical messages referenced a previous court case out of Utah and the potential consequences to children. While it did not specify South Dakota, Brookings, or the school district, I want to ensure you are informed without causing unnecessary concern. It's important to note that no immediate threat exists to our school district or community. We have taken proactive measures by promptly informing law enforcement authorities, collaborating to identify the call's origin, and ensuring additional awareness of the situation. The safety and security of our staff and students are of the utmost importance, and I appreciate your cooperation with this situation. BHS Theater Presents: Alice in Wonderland!

Exciting news from the BSD Foundation- we have partnered with BHS to raffle the sheds built by the construction trades class!

The Brookings School District is thrilled to announce the launch of our Early Learning program next fall. We will provide Pre-K and Extended Enrichment services from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Pre-K programming, is offered as half-day services onsite at the Brookings School District. For those who wish to extend their child's time in the program, the Boys and Girls Club will offer Extended Enrichment programming at the three elementary schools for an additional fee. Due to ACT testing we are pushing the start times for this Saturday's softball games FROM 11:00 and 1:00 TO 3:00 (varsity) and 5:00 (JV)

Make-Up Snow Day: April 29, 2024

Brookings County is still under a No-Travel Advisory through the overnight. BSD will consequently be two hours late on Wednesday, 3/27.

BSD will be closed on Tuesday 3/26.

BSD will have a two-hour late start on Tuesday, 3-26. Snow has stopped, but another system is approaching from Nebraska and will provide additional snow overnight. Snow and high winds will lead to difficult conditions in the morning. We will reevaluate conditions in the AM.
