The Bobcats were busy this week! 🎶 On Saturday, they performed at Festival of Bands, where they placed second in their class and were awarded best drum majors in prelims, then placed sixth out of twenty six total bands in finals. 🍬 Before that, they celebrated BHS Homecoming week with a fun parade and an excellent halftime show! 🎉 We are proud to honor this year's seniors; thank you all for your hard work, leadership, and commitment. Overall, a very successful weekend for the Brookings band! 📸: https://www.instagram.com/p/DAzIjvIRpIC/?img_index=1

Due to the fire watch Brookings County is currently under, the ‘Burning of the B’ will be moved from the south parking lot to the BHS track field. We will light the B with decorative lights immediately following the Coronation ceremony.

IT'S HOMECOMING TIME - BHS Homecoming is a few weeks away, and it's time to build those floats and get our candy bags ready because the BHS Homecoming Parade IS BACK!!! Let's see if we can outdo last year's 70+ entries and make our parade the best ever. This year's theme is "The Brookings Tea Party...Let's Spill the Tea." On Friday, October 4, classes will dismiss at 1:00 to head downtown for our 2:00 parade. The parade route starts at 6th St & 5th Avenue, goes south down 5th Avenue to Front Street, heads west down Front Street to Main Avenue, then goes north down Main Ave where it ends at 6th Street. Coaches, Advisors, Managers, Directors, Bosses, or Anyone leading a community group, get your entry ready and register. Go to the BSD Homepage  and register. Entries are due on Friday, September 27. - GO BOBCATS -

I once hoped South Dakota could have a program for high school students to begin earning their CDA (Child Development Associate) credential. With help from some fantastic educators nationwide, BHS student Annika Hulberg started that journey in the new Hillcrest Pre-K program today.

I am excited to share that Justin Stanley has verbally accepted the High School Principal position, and his contract officially starts on July 1, 2024. After working with him for the last school year, I am confident in his skills and abilities for this position. Justin Stanley joined the Brookings School District in 2021 as the Assistant Principal at Brookings High School. His educational career began at Horizon Middle School in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he taught 8th grade for a decade. Following this, he served as Principal of Harvey High School in Harvey, North Dakota, for six years. A native of Brookings and an alumnus of Brookings High School, Justin graduated in 1999. He holds undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education and Physical Education from the University of Mary, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Catherine University, and Administration credentials from North Dakota State University. Justin is married to Deann Stanley, and together they have five children: Rowan (18), Ava (16), Cruz (12), Lyric (10), and Briar (6). Due to Justin’s appointment, the district will open the Assistant Principal position. We look forward to Justin's leadership and the continued success of our high school under his guidance.
